Pandasia has been built according to traditional Chinese style. The project consists of two stunning Chinese buildings connected to each other by a wooden bridge. The whole area covers about 9,000 m². Pandasia consists of a separate internal and external enclosure for the male and female, along with several night accommodations, a delivery room, and a cold store for storing bamboo. The roof and wall structures were made in China using traditional methods, and have been finished in authentic colours. The shape, structure, proportions, materials, symbolism and colours of the buildings are all based on a Chinese temple. In addition, a restaurant with a Chinese/Asian look and a Panda gift shop make the project complete.
Giant panda conservation
The giant panda is an endangered species that is only found in the wild in China. At the last count, there were only 1,864 giant pandas living in the wild. In addition to the arrival of the giant pandas in Rhenen, Ouwehands Zoo will make a substantial financial contribution each year to support nature conservation activities in China.
